The Dr Roy Wilson Royals were number one ranked going into the playoffs and they showed why they were the best with a 2-0 (25-16; 25-14) win over the Medicine Hat Christian Warriors.
The Warriors were the story of the tournament. Ranked last going into the playoffs, they defeated number two ranked St. Mary’s Colts 2-0 (25-18; 25-14) and number three ranked CHHS Vikings 2-0 (25-16; 25-15) to book a trip to the championship final against the Royals.
In the bronze medal game, the number four ranked Parkside Pythons took out CHHS Vikings 2-0 (25-18; 25-23). The Pythons were down a bunch in the second set but made an improbable comeback to take the bronze medal.
The Notre Dame Dawgs won the boys B volleyball league championship, held at St. Mary’s, with a 2-1 (25-5; 20-25; 15-7) win over Crescent Heights.
As the top ranked team heading into the final, the Dawgs only had to play two matches. In their semi-final game they played number 4 ranked Wilson Royals and defeated them 2-1 (25-14; 14-25; 15-5).
Number 3 ranked CHHS booked their ticket to the final with an exciting 2-1 (26-28; 25-16; 17-15) win over the host Colts.
St. Mary’s, ranked number 2, faced off against the Royals in the bronze medal game and took the Royals 2-1 (24-26; 25-14; 15-10).
Seven Persons crushed the 2J competition at the SZJHAA Cross Country Meet in Echodale. St. Mary’s finished in third place in the 4J category, while Parkside was also third among 3J schools.
SZJHAA athletes had two medalists:
Cody Uitvlugt, St. Mary’s – 2nd boys midget
Samuel Schick, Schuler – 2nd juvenile boys
